This is a great seasoning mix you can throw together just with ingredients in your pantry, assuming you keep onion flakes on hand. Use it whenever you have a recipe that calls for a store-bought packet of French Onion Soup Mix. You could also mix 30g of it (about 4 Tbsp) with a cup of boiling water to make soup. Today I used it to make a delicious French Onion Dip.
When first mixed I worried it was a bit too thin, but it thickened up after a few minutes as the onion flakes absorbed the excess moisture. It would be great to dip your favourite low-carb veggies in, and those not doing a low-carb diet will love it on potato chips. Enjoy!
• 1/4 cup dried onion flakes
• 2 Tbsp beef stock powder
• 1/2 tsp onion powder
• 1/2 tsp garlic powder
• 1/4 tsp celery salt
• 1/4 tsp black pepper
• 1/2 tsp dried parsley
• 1/2 tsp sea salt
• 1/2 tsp turmeric (optional but adds great flavour) or paprika
Mix everything together well. One recipe replaces a packet of mix. Use 30g (about 4 Tbsp or 1/4 cup) with a cup boiling water to make soup. For dip just mix with a large container of sour cream.
Yields about 7 Tbsp mix. Nutrition stats per Tbsp: 10 calories, 0g fat, 382mg sodium, 2.4g carbs, 0.3g fibre, and 0.6g protein.
