A Classic British dish, Beans on Toast. Fortnum & Mason on London’s Piccadilly started selling Heinz baked beans in 1886. And we’ve been slapping them on toast and lapping them up ever since. And for many Brits ever since they coined the slogan in 1967 “Beanz Meanz Heinz”.
This is how we would make them from scratch if we didn’t just buy them from supermarkets in cans and zhuzh them up with our favourite condiments, cheese or chilli sauce .
Cheesy beans are one of Britain’s culinary masterpieces and far more challenging for students to perfect than France’s Soufflé or Japans pot noodle. To quote Sir Winston Churchill “Baked beans are an essential food, cheesy beans are a PASSION!”
