In this video I show y’all how to make bone in chicken thighs in the air fryer. This chicken thigh air fryer recipe is so easy to prepare and cook. These thighs are rubbed with a delicious homemade rub using simple spices then air fried in the air fryer. This recipe yields super moist chicken with a great crispy outer skin. An easy meal in just under 30 minutes.
Shopping List:
2 bone in skin on chicken thighs
2 tsps. each of garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, dried thyme, salt and pepper.
Cooking spray
Whole milk or buttermilk
1 piece of bread, torn into several pieces
Directions:
Season both sides of the thighs with salt and pepper, place in a container and cover with whole milk or buttermilk. Cover and place in fridge for 2 hours to overnight. This tenderizes the chicken and will keep it moist while cooking.
Mix together the rub ingredients in a small bowl.
Pat the thighs dry with paper towels.
Lightly spray both sides of the thighs with the cooking spray.
Sprinkle the rub on both sides of the thighs, rubbing it in really well.
Remove the basket crisper plate and put the torn up bread pieces in the bottom of the basket. (this will help to absorb the dripping fat and reduce some of the smoking common to cooking bone in thighs).
Return the crisper plate to the basket, lightly spray it with cooking spray, close and pre-heat on 390 degrees for 3 minutes.
When pre-heated, arrange the prepared thighs skin side up on the crisper plate on a single layer. Air fry on 390 degrees for 15 minutes then flip and cook about 5-10 minutes more or until the internal temperature of the thighs has reached at least 165 degrees, but I have found the thighs to be better at 175-180. NOTE: if using a digital thermometer make sure when you check the internal temp you’re not touching a bone as the temp will read higher on bone.
When done, remove to a clean plate and allow to rest 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
Serve with your choice of sides.
