Can you make Oreo soup taste good? Oreos are milk’s favorite cookie, so let’s see what will happen if you put Oreos in a milk-based corn chowder. Will we be able to make this gross food abomination edible?
Oreo Corn Chowder Soup Recipe:
Adapted from https://www.thechunkychef.com/hearty-homemade-corn-chowder/
Ingredients
– 8 – 12 slices of bacon, diced
– 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
– 1 medium yellow onion, diced
– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– 1 lb Yukon Gold or baby red potatoes, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
– 10 original Oreos, with the cookies separated from the cream
– 5 cups water
– 4 cans regular corn (not sweet corn), drained, or 2 1-lb bags of frozen corn, thawed
– 1/4 tsp paprika
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
– 4 oz Asiago cheese
– Oreos for garnish
1. Use a mortar and pestle or a food processor to grind the separated Oreo cookies into a powder.
2. Cook the bacon pieces in large heavy bottomed pot (like a Dutch oven) over MED heat. Cook about 5-8 minutes, or until bacon is crisp. Use a slotted spoon to remove to a paper towel lined plate and set aside.
3. Use a clean paper towel to absorb some of the bacon grease, reserving about 1 Tbsp of grease in the pot. Add butter and melt over MED heat.
4. Add diced onions and cook about 5 minutes, until soft and translucent. Add garlic and cook about 1 minute, stirring often. Use a slotted spoon to remove the onions and garlic from the pot and set aside.
5. Whisk 1/4 cup of the Oreo powder into the butter and grease. Continue to whisk for around 3 minutes.
6. While whisking, pour in water and increase heat to MED-HIGH. Add in onion, corn, potatoes, thyme, smoked paprika, your remaining Oreo cookie powder, and salt and pepper. Stir and bring to a low boil, then reduce heat to MED-LOW and simmer.
7. Simmer, stirring every so often, for 15-20 minutes, until potatoes are fork tender.
8. Use an immersion blender to blend about half the soup until smooth. Alternatively, remove about 3 cups of the soup to a blender and blend until smooth. Stir the blended soup back into the pot.
9. Add in heavy cream and about half of the Oreo cream filling you separated from the cookies. Stir in and heat through. Mix in the cheese and the cooked bacon. Add salt and pepper to taste.
