This is not an authentic Goulash recipe. Just my version of what I’d like Goulash to be.

Goulash

-Olive oil
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 package of stewing beef
– 1 onion chopped into large chunks
– 4 cloves garlic roughly chopped
– 2 potatoes chopped into large cubes
– 2 heaping tablespoons of Hungarian Sweet Paprika
– 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
– 2 1/2 cups of water
– 1/2 cup sour cream

Equipment: A slow cooker or a heavy-duty pot.

Directions:
– Get a pot very hot with oil. Salt and pepper the beef and sear on both sides until browned.
– Add the garlic and onions and saute about 2 minutes.
– Add the paprika and cook 1 minute.
– Add the tomato paste and cook 1 minute.
– Add the water and some more salt.
– Add this mixture and the potatoes to a crock pot (slow cooker). Cook it on low for about 4 hours (every crock pot is different with timing so check the users manual)
– If you are cooking it in a heavy-duty pot on the stove, simply lower the flame to low and cook for around two hours. Give it a stir every half hour.
– When the meat is very tender and the potatoes are completely cooked through, add the sour cream and mix.
– Serve with noodles, rice, bread, whatever! Enjoy!
