How to Make Paprika Oil or Achiote Oil

Paprika oil or Achiote oil are made from two different main ingredients. Paprika oil is made from the Paprika spice and Achiote oil is made from the Annatto or Achiote seeds.
The procedure to prepare these oils is the same.

Steps
1. Put the oil and the paprika powder in the pot at medium heat. Stir frequently.

2. Bubbles will start to form around the edges when the oil begins to simmer. The paprika will continue to release its colour. Continue to stir and let simmer for about 2 to 3 minutes, then remove from the heat.

3. Place the sieve and the coffee filter in the bowl and pour the hot paprika oil through.

Tip: Filter the paprika oil while it is hot. The filtration is faster when the oil is hot.

4. Let the oil cool and transfer it into the plastic squeeze bottle. Use a funnel if needed.

Paprika oil or achiote oil may be used for garnishing, for sauteeing vegetables and for enhancing the flavour and colour of soups, and rice or potato dishes such as, llapingachos.
