Although this dish originated in Hungary, but it is already a common dish in Germany now. On the Internet, there are thousands of goulash recipes, but I think my mother-in-law’s goulash is very delicious, let me often please her to cook it for me 😂.

You can cook goulash for 8 people with this recipe.

English Recipe
[Ingredients]
• 1 kg Beef/Pork – can only beef or pork, also can be 500g beef and 500g pork.
• 2 Onions (about 300g)
• 2 or 3 Carrots (about 250g)
• 10g Garlic
• 40g Dried Mushroom
• 0.5 tsp Black Pepper
• 1 tsp Caraway Seeds
• 1.5 tsp Marjoram
• 2 Bay Leaves
• 1 tsp of Allspice Powder or 6 Allspice
• 4 Cloves
• 1 tsp Salt
• 0.5 tsp Chili Flakes
• 1 tsp Sweet Paprika Powder
• Some Lemon Peel (about half lemon)
• 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
• 2 tbsp Ketchup
• 1 cup of Red Wine (about 300 ml)
• Some Water
• Some Vegetable Oil or Clarified Butter

1. Add some water with mushrooms and soak them for softly.
2. Tear bay leaves into small pieces. Mix all spices and grind them into powder.
3. After Peeled garlics, use the back of a knife to flatten them. Note: Garlic is easy to peel after freezing.
4. Cut onions into strips, slice carrots, grate some lemon peel and dice the meat.
5. Heat a pot with at least 3 liters capacity and put some oil (ex. vegetable oil, olive oil, Clarified butter…). Put meat into the pot and add 1 tsp of spices powder. Stir-fry meat till meat’s surface is caramel color.
6. Take out meat, set it aside.
7. Put onion into the pot and stir-fry it briefly.
8. Put carrots and garlic into the pot, stir-fry it briefly.
9. Add 1 tsp of spices powder, lemon peel, tomato paste, ketchup and stir well.
10. Pour red wine, cut mushrooms to the size you like and put them into the pot (incl. the mushroom water).
11. When soup boil, put meat into the pot. Pour water into the pot till it covers all ingredients. Add the remaining spices powder, salt and stir well.
12. When the water is boiling, cover the pot and turn to low heat, then simmer for 2 hours.
