Tarka Dal
I have been making Dal aka Lentils like forever with coconut milk and it always gives such a nice creamy texture with a subtle flavour letting the spices bloom to perfection. A must try.
👩🏻🍳Ingredients:
* Red Lentils 200g
* Water 200 ml
* Coconut Milk 400ml
* Coriander Powder 1/4 tsp
* Cumin Powder 1/4 tsp
* Salt 1 tsp
* Fenugreek 1/2 tsp
* Garlic Powder 1/2 tsp
* Ginger Powder 1/2 tsp
* Paprika 1/2 tsp
* Turmeric 1/4 tsp
* Cinnamon Powder 1/2 tsp
* Black Pepper 1/2 tsp
* Veg Stock Powder 1/2 tsp
* Tomato Chopped 3
* Onions (sliced) 2
* Dried Red Chilli 2
* Green Chilli
* Garlic (crushed) 1
* Cumin seeds 1 tsp
👩🏻🍳Method:
* Rinse the lentils very well with water, discard the water.
* On medium heat,Add fresh water, lentils, coconut milk and all the spices and seasoning in the pan. Let it boil for a couple of minute till the lentils start to soften.
* Add chopped tomatoes to the lentils and cook for a 5 to 10 mins depending on your heat
* Add sliced onions to 5 tbsp of oil in a separate pan.
* When the onions soften, add dried red whole chillies and green chillies as per your taste, in the pan. Let the onions brown.
* Add crushed garlic and cumin seeds. Mix and let sauté for 1-2 mins.
* Add half the browned onions in the Dal and leave some for garnishing.
* Serve with boiled basmati rice and garnish some crispy browned onions on top!
