Haluski means a lot of different things to different people. This is a version that comes to us from Hungarian-Jewish immigrants to the United States in the late 19th, early 20th centuries. It’s sauteed onions, cabbage, pasta, and all the paprika you want––an incomprehensibly simple dish to make. It’s the kind of dish I wish I knew existed back when I thought I couldn’t cook.
I came across this dish from a cousin who had the recipe passed down to her family through an ancestral line we share. (I know that sounds Lord of the Rings-y but I really don’t know how else to describe it.)
