In this video our chef will present you the shakshuka made of fresh vegetables from the Souss massa region (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, onions…). And spices that are very well known in Morocco. without eggs and that we serve as an appetizer to the customers of Camel rides and barbecue.
What is the shakchuka?
The chakchouka is a traditional North African dish. Very popular in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. With some small differences from one country to another, and even from one region to another.
But not only in the Greater Maghreb, the chakchouka is also very popular in Turkey (based on eggplants), India and Israel (certainly introduced in this country by Moroccan Jews).
This last information was given to us by one of our customers who came from the United States.
When he wanted to book by tripadvisor he mentioned that he would like our chef to prepare him a Moroccan shakshuka that the Israelis prepare in the same way.
The chakchouka is similar to several other dishes such as French ratatouille, Italian caponata, Tunisian ojja, and blackfoot frita.
The word chakchouka is said to come from Berber (also spelled choukchouka, chouchouka, tchakchouka, tchouktchouka, tchaktchouka, chekchouka … I know!!!! It’s difficult to pronounce for some people!!! ).
And our egg-free shakshouka dish is served for people who prefer to eat healthy and vegetarian.
