Goulash is a beef stew that originally came from Hungary. The word gulyás actually means the cattle herdsman or cowboys. So the dish was as the dish of the herdmans.
One of the variants is Wiener Gulasch (Viennese goulash). This originated in the early 19th century when the Hungarian Infantry Regiment was set up in Vienna, Austria.
Ingredients:
1 kg of beef – use cuts from the shank or cuck (beef shoulder) or short rib as well
1 kg of onions
2 garlic cloves
3 tomatoes
5 tablespoons of paprika powder
3 bay leaves
1 teaspoon of cumin powder
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of dried marjoram
5-7 tablespoons of cooking oil
fried onion
1 kg of potatoes – as side dish. This is optional, if you want other side dish, for example bread rolls, spätzle, etc.
