Scotch eggs are a #british dish that originated in the 1700s despite popular belief that it’s a Scottish dish (from the name?). It also doesn’t contain any scotch alcohol in it 😅.
Ingredients:
8 eggs
1 lb breakfast sausages
1 lb minced beef
1 apple grated
2 tbs balsamic vinegar
4 dashes bitters
2 tbsp worchestershire sauce
2 tsp paprika
2 tsp chili flakes
1 tsp salt
1 onion minced
3 cloves garlic grated
black pepper
Method:
Place eggs in boiling water for 6 mins. Immediately remove from heat and add cold water to pan to stop cooking. Drain water from pan and add cold water for eggs to cool down.
Remove casing from sausages and chop. In bowl add beef, sausages, apple and season with balsamic vinegar, Bitters, Worchestershire sauce, paprika, chili flakes, onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Mash with fork until paste forms
Place 1 foot × 1 foot square saran wrap on table. Add 3 tbsp of pattie mixture and flatten on wrap. Add egg on top and cover egg with meat. Use your fingers dipped in cold water to help form the ball. Cover in saran wrap tightly and place in fridge for 30 mins.
Make an assembly line with 1 bowl flour, 1 bowl egg wash and 1 bowl panko crumbs. Roll egg in each jn that order.
Deep fry for 10 – 12 mins.
